Communiqué from the International Finance Forum Forum – The 2022 Annual Meeting of the International Finance Forum (IFF), whose theme is “The Changing World: Reshaping Our Shared Future”, took place in Guangzhou and was presented online from December 2 to 4, 2022.
Guests at the opening ceremony include Han Seung-soo, Co-Chair of the FFI, Chairman of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly, António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kristalina Georgieva, Chief Executive Officer of the Fund International Monetary Fund (IMF), Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Chief Minister of Singapore, Henry Paulson, Former Secretary of the United States Treasury, Ho Hau Wah, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and Zhou Xiaochuan, Chairman of the General Assembly of the FFI.
Zhang Xin, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, and Guo Yonghang, Mayor of Guangzhou, also spoke at the event. According to Mr. Guterres, financing for the fight against global warming must go hand in hand with that for a just transition, in particular through investments in universal social protection, the creation of decent jobs and the creation of retraining programs for the new economy.
Participants called for open and pragmatic cooperation to address major global challenges facing the world. Co-hosted by the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the IFF, the annual meeting brings together leading international organizations, world leaders and business leaders to discuss a range of global issues, including multiple concurrent crises, the climate crisis, green finance and China’s economic outlook.
Kristalina Georgieva urged China to further calibrate its COVID-19 strategy to mitigate its economic impact to sustain and balance economic recovery.
Vice Governor Zhang Xin said Guangdong is currently contributing to the sustainable development of the global financial industry, including deepening reforms, initiating and boosting cooperation in the Greater Bay Area.
During this three-day event, industry specialists, world leaders, economists and academics will discuss the Chinese economy, international cooperation, global financial governance, green transition, carbon pricing, supply and global value chains.
