A number slaps with this motorcycle. The 1923! It concerns its distribution, its rarity almost. Less than 2000 copies of this NineT will be produced. But why?!? There is no connection with its cubic capacity, nor its year of creation…
Because this motorcycle celebrates the centenary of BMW Motorrad. After the First World War, BMW no longer had the right to produce aircraft engines (its main activity). So the company started making motorcycles. In 1923 comes out the R32the one that launches the German manufacturer into the bubbling field of two-wheelers.
After this episode of Maitre Capelo, let’s get to the point. The R NineT 100 Years is largely embellished with finery to show itself worthy of the commemorations. The tuxedo is de rigueur, with plenty of chrome instead of white for the shirt. Variegated on the tank and the retro-sport seat cowl, this coating explodes the light for a presentation of tradition. An unbeatable sparkle on a black coat, whispered with white edging.
Remarkable, in the literal sense of the word. But before showing its talents and the momentum of its 109-horsepower boxer engine, the R NineT highlights the “Options 719” that it has offered itself. Of these, the milled aluminum cylinder head covers are the most visible. They are part of the “Billet Pack Shadow”, also including a front engine cover, saddle supports and an oil filler cap benefiting from the same treatment.
Added to this is the second pack of “Shadow” milled parts, with adjustable levers and rider footpegs, bar end mirrors, jar covers (clutch and brake) and passenger footpegs.
The rims are also “Options 719”. However, they seem identical to the spoked wheels of the standard NineT. But looking closely, we discover different spoke attachments, and especially the mounting of Tubeless tires. As a bonus, a gain of 3 kilos on the unsprung masses.
The 100 Years edition is also entitled to knee grips, a two-tone black/oxblood saddle and the PRO trim level. Technology enthusiasts will be able to enjoy cruise control, Pro Riding Modes, adaptive cornering headlight, on-board alarm, traction control (instead of ASC traction control), torque control engine and heated grips.
In all, the now most luxurious R NineT offers 3 driving modes (Rain / Road / Dyna), active ABS Pro in curves, a USB socket, the electronic incrementation seen in the previous chapter, and the equipment of the series model : fork of S 1000 R adjustable from anywhere, 4-piston Brembo brakes on 320 mm discs, single-arm with cardan transmission, removable passenger frame and double side silencer.
In the center of the tank, between the chrome shoulder blades, a celebratory badge dubs this neo-retro roadster. As an over-equipped limited edition, the R NineT 100 Years takes a serious hit on the price side.
A preference for custom?!? No problem, the R18 also exists in a 100 Years version. Another trip for other roads.
