30th edition of the International Disability Day: Doctor Marie Khemesse announces new perspectives for 2026

Madam the Minister of Health and Social Action, Dr Marie Khémesse Ngom Ndiaye chaired this Saturday, December 3 in Fatick the ceremony of the 30th edition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in the region of Fatick.

This ceremony is the place for the Minister to maintain that this ceremony, beyond raising awareness, constitutes a privileged framework for taking stock of public policies relating to disabilities. But also an opportunity to launch the 9th edition of the National Week for People with Disabilities in application of article 45 of the law on social orientation relating to disability.

“Disability should not be seen as inevitable because it often results from a health problem and various personal and environmental factors” will support Dr. Marie Khemesse Ngom Ndiaye.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities, namely “Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fueling an accessible and equitable world”, is the theme of this edition which, according to the Minister, is in line with straight line with the vision of the Head of State in accordance with the Emerging Senegal PSE Plan, whose axis II concerns social protection.

It is also recalled on this international day that under the legal measures, the social orientation law is now beginning to be applied through the signing of two (02) implementing decrees relating to the employment card. opportunity, special education and community-based rehabilitation.

And compared to the last ten years, great prospects are announced with in particular: the extension of the equal opportunities card program, the implementation of a new national action plan on disability over the period 2022- 2026, the scaling up of the disability management communalization strategy.

Finally, the Minister addressed her congratulations to the members of the national, regional and local steering committees who spared no effort for the success of this day. As well as to the Director General of Social Action and all his collaborators for the good organization of this day.
