Better to have the right tires for driving on snowy ground. The proof with this video which challenges two Audi R8 equipped or not with an all-wheel drive.
In a new video posted by Carwowof them Audi R8 compete on an indoor ski slope. The objective is not to cross the finish line in the shortest possible time, but to climb a slippery slope with summer and then winter tires.
These two Audi R8s have the same engine. This is’a 5.2 liter V10 capable of producing 570 hp in the case of the Audi R8 Performance RWD, and 610 hp in the Audi R8 Performance Quattro. Due to its all-wheel drive, the Quattro model is 105 kg heavier.
As the video shows, neither of the two athletes manages to reach the end of the track, even the Audi R8 Performance Quattro – which is nevertheless equipped with all-wheel drive – throws in the towel. The tires slip and do not adhere to the ground, deactivating the stability control does not change much.
It was necessary to replace the summer tires with winter tires so that the sports cars on the rings could climb the slope. Against all expectations, the Audi R8 Performance RWD made a better start, but it was quickly overtaken by the Audi R8 Performance Quattro which logically finished in first position.
This video demonstrates once again the importance of winter tires. Without them, driving in cold weather on snowy roads is impossible, whether or not your car is equipped with all-wheel drive.
