The failure of the mobile port for the Age of Empires license

Before Return to Empire in China, which did not really appeal to Asian players, Age of Empires arrived on smartphones via Age of Empires: Castle Siege and Age of Empires: World Domination. Both of these games felt more like Clash of Clans real-time strategy games than the complex and expansive historical real-time strategy games like those in the main series. Success will never be there, despite an economic model based on free-to-play.
