Algeria strongly condemned, on Monday, the terrorist attacks perpetrated on October 22, 2022, in the locality of Banibango, in the west of Niger near the border with Mali and which targeted civilians.
“In these painful circumstances, Algeria wishes to express its compassion and its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and to reiterate its unfailing solidarity with the government and the brotherly people of Niger, a neighboring and friendly country with which it maintains quality relations. These attacks, which reflect the hidden intention of terrorist gangs to spread chaos in Niger and throughout the Sahel region, cannot undermine the determination of the countries of the region and that of Algeria, nor their common desire to eradicate this scourge and to invest resolutely in a promising perspective of peace and shared prosperity for the benefit of their peoples”, reads the press release from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, relayed by the official press agency (APS).
It should be recalled that at least 12 Nigerien civilians were killed on Saturday in an attack carried out by armed men in the department of Banibangou, in western Niger.
After several months of calm in the Tillaberi region, an attack carried out by unidentified armed men claimed the lives of 12 people on Saturday October 22, 2022 in the department of Banibangou, more precisely on the Tizegorou-Banibangou axis. According to what was reported by the online site “Actuniger”. Citing “local sources”, the media indicated that the victims were traveling in three vehicles which were set on fire by the attackers.
It should be noted that the Türkiye Embassy in Niger had reacted to the attack on civilians.
“We wish God’s mercy to the 12 civilians who lost their lives in the terrorist attack that took place on Saturday, October 22 near the town of Banibangou in the Tillaberi region of Niger,” the embassy said in a statement. , expressing condolences to the bereaved families.
