“It hurts to lose, but we still have an opportunity to be first,” added the coach.

Carlo Ancelotti appeared in the RB Arena press room after the Champions League Group Stage Matchday 5 game. The coach said: “The game got complicated because they were able to take advantage of their big strength, the counter-attacks. We struggled to get into the game. We tried to equalize and we were close to doing so”.

“I didn’t see a lack of intensity or attitude. Sooner or later a defeat had to come. It’s a defeat that hurts, but less than others because we still have an opportunity to be first”.

What to improve
“You learn more from a defeat than from 10 straight wins. We will focus on what went wrong. We weren’t good at defensive set pieces, a phase in which we conceded two goals. Usually we are better, but it can happen. We didn’t play the game we wanted. It was better to have a lower block and take advantage of the counters, but it was the complete opposite of what we had set up. They scored two goals for us, we should have played in another way”.

The risks taken
“We had absentees, but those who played did their part. The mistake was at the start of the match. They played as they wanted. They defended, looked for counterattacks, they are very quick on it. We have we had chances and had good control of the game until 3-1. To turn the game around you have to take risks and we took some, but it didn’t all go well. We can’t fault anything. The players who stayed at home couldn’t play and the players tonight won a lot of games. I didn’t change the team much.”
