Bournemouth want to disrupt Southampton’s plans and sign Nicolas Jackson

While Southampton made a €20m bid rejected by Villarreal last week, Bournemouth are reportedly considering signing Villarreal’s Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson before the transfer deadline.

Although the Saints are close to concluding an agreement after several days of discussions with the 21-year-old’s representatives, Bournemouth’s interest in this matter is real. The Vitality Stadium club have yet to submit a bid but are working on a deal to sign Jackson for €20m plus bonuses – a package which sources close to Jackson and Villarreal say could be enough.

The race between the south coast rivals – and another unnamed Premier League club – is now set to enter the final days of this transfer window, which ends on January 31. Jackson has been a regular for the Villarreal side this season, registering two goals and two assists in 14 La Liga appearances.

The striker was also a member of Aliou Cisse’s Senegal squad at the 2022 World Cup, making his debut for his country at the tournament. Currently lacking playing time since Quique Sétién replaced Unaï Emery, his departure from Spain seems inevitable.
