Ecomondo: “SwitchMed Connect”, the European Union event on the circular economy, in Italy for the first time

Ecomondo, an international reference for the circular economy. “This year, announces Corrado Peraboni, CEO of the IEG, the Italian exhibition group’s show, scheduled for November 8 to 11 at the Expo Center in Rimini, will host “SwitchMed Connect” on November 9 and 10, a first-class biennial event. European Union-funded plan promoting circular economy approaches in Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia, held in Italy for the first time. »

SwitchMed, founded in 2013 by the European Union, is the result of a collaboration between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Economics Division of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and MedWaves , the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production.

“SwichMed Connect” will see the main start-ups, entrepreneurs, sector operators, political and financial institutions of the Mediterranean gathered at Ecomondo to promote and accelerate the transition towards sustainable consumption and production models in the southern Mediterranean. The second day will be marked by the #EYESONBLUE ceremony which will reward the 3 best entrepreneurs and their innovative projects in the field of the blue economy. The competition is jointly organized by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), EU Neighbors South and the SwitchMed programme.

On the program: “SwitchMed: sustainable and circular fisheries food systems for a blue economy in the Mediterranean” and conferences on cross-cutting topics: textile and fashion industry, access to sustainable finance, circularity of plastics and open-eco innovation.

Ecomondo 2022, which is in its 25th edition and which is a pioneer on the themes of the circular economy and sustainable development, will also be a partner of the first Mediterranean pavilion of COP27, the annual meeting of the signatory countries of the Convention- United Nations Framework on Climate Change, which will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh from 6 to 18 November 2022.
