Exploris: the new French expedition company that wants to go back to basics

And two! Thursday, September 8, forty-eight hours after CFC, it was the turn of the French cruise company Exploris to officially launch. Two new French players who do not operate at all in the same segment and are the fruit of separate initiatives, but who share a common point: the desire to return to basics in an industry which has gradually become sanitized and to offer again, on the tricolor market, 100% French-speaking trips.

Whereas CFC will relaunch long-distance voyages from French ports on a small liner, the playground of Exploris, whose first departure is scheduled for December 2023, will be expedition cruises, especially in polar areas. The company, created at the instigation of Philippe Videau, one of the founders of Ponant, aims to build new ships fairly quickly. But, to get started, it will start its activity with an existing unit, known today under the name of Silver Explorer.

Built in Rauma, Finland, commissioned in 1989 and renovated in 2018, this 107.9 meter long and 15.8 wide expedition vessel has a tonnage of 6072 tons. It has 72 cabins
