Fable: Eidos Montreal helps Playground Games with game development | Xbox One

The teams from the Western studios of Square Enix are decidedly very close to Microsoft. In an article published by Bloomberg, we learn that Eidos Montreal is helping to develop Playground Games’ next Fable game.

Fable is therefore a game co-developed with an external partner

It is on the occasion of bad news that we learn this information from Bloomberg. According to the newspaper’s sources, Embracer Group simply closed the Square Enix Montreal studio when it had just been renamed Onoma a month ago.

The studio was known for having developed Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go or even Tomb Raider Reloaded and according to the same sources, part of the teams should find work at Eidos Montreal.

According to people familiar with the matter, Eidos Montreal has reduced the scope of an as-yet-unannounced game and will cancel another, a sign of a reduction in ambitions and costs that currently targets this branch of Embracer.

It is on this occasion that we learn that Eidos Montreal will lend a hand to Playground Games to develop the next game Fable announced in July 2020. It is therefore the second (ex)western studio of Square Enix to help Microsoft develop its games since we learned in September 2021 that Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider) was going to help The Initiative on Perfect Dark.

Formalized via a CG trailer in 2020, Fable has no announced platform or release date yet.
