FC Barcelona: two names for the post-Busquets

Sergi Busquets is getting old (35 years old) and FC Barcelona is thinking about what to do next. Two players are mentioned to replace him in midfield next summer, in addition to the Italian from Chelsea, Jorginho (30), at the end of the contract in June 2023.

According to information from brand, two profiles caught the attention of the leaders of FC Barcelona. The first leads to a well-known Barça name, since often announced in the sights of the Catalan club : this is Ruben Neves. The 25-year-old Portuguese, who is currently playing at Wolverhampton in the Premier League with a contract until 2024, is represented by agent Jorge Mendes, close to the leaders of FC Barcelona. This proximity could facilitate a transfer, in winter or summer 2023, even if the competition with teams better endowed financially (Manchester United) should give the 2nd in La Liga a hard time on this issue.

Finally, the Spaniard Martin Zubimendi is also mentioned. The 23-year-old Real Sociedad midfielder could be sold for 40m euros as his release clause rises to 60m. The Spanish international (1 cap) has played 7 games this season.

Depay wants to play more regularly

Warned by his coach, Louis van Gaal, in the same way as Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay said at a press conference with his selection that he wanted to play more than he currently does at Barça (only 3 games played): “I had two starting places in the last two weeks in La Liga. It’s not sufficient. I get replaced after 60 minutes, but I want more. In the last 25 minutes of the game there is more space and I still have the power to take advantage of it.

The Dutchman, who could have left Barca for Juventus this summer, said he decided to stay with the Catalan club: “Other clubs have come and then you look at the different options. I decided to fight for my luck here. (…) I like being at Barça.”

The former Lyonnais is out of contract with the Catalan club in the summer of 2023.
