iPhone 14 Pro’s 5G is faster than competing models

Speed tests conducted by the company Oookla reveal that 5G is significantly faster on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max than previous models or the competition.

The Americans at Ookla come to confirm that, pretty much everywhere in the world, the speed of 5G has increased considerably on iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Although the numbers are smaller, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 also have good speeds.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max, 5G champion

The American company Ookla, known for its famous Internet speed test site Speedtest.net, has conducted speed tests 5G in several countries around the world. As we wrote above, the results show ascending and especially descending speeds much higher than the old versions of the devices tested. And this obviously does not come out of nowhere and is explained in particular by the components that equip the new iPhone and Samsung.

For example, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max both feature Apple’s A16 chip and Snapdragon X65 5G modem. The iPhone 14 is only equipped with the X60 modem, like its predecessors, the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. By operating what it calls a Speedtest Intelligence between September 16 and October 6, Ookla finds that the iPhone 14 Pro Max, in France, reaches an average download speed of 318.97 Mbps against 259.73 for the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Same observation of increase on the iPhone 14 Pro which peaks at 297.57 Mbps against 247.50 for the 13 Pro. Upstream speeds also increase, from 16.43 Mbps on the iPhone 13 Pro Max to 19.33 Mbps on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The basic iPhone 14 offers almost identical performance to that of the 13 Pro Max model.

Samsung boosts its speed

Ookla’s tests did not only concern the latest smartphones from Apple, but also the last two models of Samsung Galaxy Fold : the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and 4. Unsurprisingly, still in France, the Z Fold 4 has a much higher 5G speed than its big brother released in August 2021. The latest folding smartphone from the Korean manufacturer is, like the latest iPhones, equipped with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X65 modem, while the Z Fold 3 is only equipped with the X60. Combined with its Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, the performance is only greater.

In average download speed during the duration of the tests, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 reached 290.83 Mbps while the Z Fold 3 was only at 217.18 Mbps. The average upload speed only takes a small boost this time around, dropping from 14.58 to 15.81 Mbps.
