SECF Committee: the reasons to believe in it

At the crossroads of all know-how

Next Sunday’s race meeting is first and foremost a summary of the strategy sought by Jean-Pierre Barjon and his team. “I am very proud of the idea of presiding over this classic day, illustrating the visions and the work carried out within LeTROT over the past three years. By merging the technical, marketing, promotional and organizational know-how of our teams, this gala meeting indeed combines very high level sport with three Criteriums, representing the excellence of our breeding and that of our professionals. It also meets the expectations of our customers, spectators and players, encouraging the growth of stakes. As proof of this, the Chairman points to the positive results recorded by the Company since the beginning of the year, auguring a net result of 10 million euros and the maintenance of the expected allocations. Namely 285 million euros, i.e. an envelope increasing by 31 million over 2021.

PMU’s future growth levers

Guests of honor of this committee, Richard Viel and Emmanuelle Malecaze Doublet, at the head of the PMU since the beginning of this summer, also delivered a positive message (the games market continues to increase) but also very demanding. For the first city, coming from the world of Telecom, “PMU must have a different and broader approach to games, modernize its technical tools, be more efficient in terms of innovation and transformation. » The new President also evokes the imperative need to present races richer in starters and that these are above all better supplied, with an imperative of at least 8 starters. For the Chief Executive Officer, having confirmed an expected contribution of 826 million euros at the end of 2022, “thanks to 30 million savings on expenses and a margin on the issues increasing by the same amount”, two priority levers are to be operate now. The first concerns the reform of Quinté+ and the second the conquest of new customers, by “extending our gaming territory, beyond Pari Mutuel, to conquer additional market shares. This challenge requires continuing the transformation of the company, both in its IT tools and the recruitment of new talent. Jean-Pierre Barjon considers himself in perfect line with this project and willing to “offer races that meet these challenges”.

The full effect of the reform of the Trotteur Français selection program

This Committee meeting provided the opportunity to present and validate the program for the 2022/2023 winter meeting, where 40.8 million allowances will be distributed over the 90 scheduled meetings. The average prize money per event thus amounts to 54,820 euros (harnessed and ridden combined), up 5.1%. Of the 745 races scheduled, 135 have the European label and 40 are international (envelope of 16% of allocations maintained over the year). The use of races contested on the Large Track will be almost systematic (83% of the whole), a guarantee of better selection/regularity as well as quality issues. This development has become possible thanks to the lighting works carried out in 2021.

Among the new features, following the move of the Critérium des 3 ans to September, we note the programming of a Ready Cash Prize, reserved for 3-year-olds, instead of the Prix de l’Etoile, which was not run. in the month of September. This international Group I will take place on December 11, one week before the meeting of the Etriers World Cup offering the same day the Prix de Vincennes, the Prix Jag de Bellouet (4 years) and the Prix Bilibili (5 years). These three events will therefore bring together the elite of the young generations of mounted trotting, like the day of the Criteriums disputed on September 18. All these Group 1s will be preceded by qualifying races where the first three will systematically win their visa for the “beautiful”. The same will apply to the Sulkys World Cup, inaugurated in 2022 and renewed in 2023, scheduled on the day of the Prix d’Amérique. These two Group I are reserved for 4-year-olds (Prix Ourasi) and 5-year-olds (Prix Bold Eagle).

In this same logic of races leading to the summits, the systems leading to the Prix d’Amérique and Cornulier are renewed, with their share of events where the winners, even the first three, obtain their sesame for the “D” day.

This winter meeting will thus complete the loop of the reform of the selection program, adopted by the Committee in May 2021, having resulted in the creation of new brands for the discipline and which are beginning to bear fruit, in terms of stakes.

Regulatory measures

Among the changes to the Racing Code, note the revision of the threshold for the presence of arsenic, corrected downwards; but still a reflection on iron removal (authorized for the moment), for the 4-year-old generation. Professionals will be consulted over the coming weeks to find out their position and make a decision accordingly. As a reminder, iron removal is currently prohibited in promotions aged 2 and 3 years.

Finally, a survey is underway with professionals on a possible shortening of the distance of the GP of Paris disputed so far over 4,150 meters.
