Super League: Zurich part ways with coach Franco Foda –

Franco Foda is no longer the coach of FC Zurich. The German takes the door three days after an elimination in the Swiss Cup in Lausanne.

Successor to his compatriot André Breitenreiter who led the team to the title last season, Franco Foda (56) will only have led FC Zurich for 18 games. Unable to win a single league game, the former coach of Austria had, it is true, to deal with a transfer window which weakened the title team. The departures of half Ousmane Doumbia and striker Assan Ceesay to Lecce have left a void that has not been filled.

Franco Foda’s balance sheet is hardly brilliant. Successes in the Europa League preliminary round against Linfield and Heart of Midlothian cannot overshadow the pitiful run in the league, the elimination in the Swiss Cup against a Challenge League club, the failure in the preliminary round of the League champions against Qarabag and the 2 defeats in the 1st matches of the group stage of the Europa League.

Franco Foda was on a two-year contract. His two assistants Thomas Kristl and Imre Szabics were also sacked. Their successors are not yet known.
