Appointed Egypt coach in July after the failures in the CAN 2021 final and in the 2022 World Cup play-offs and the sluggish start in the CAN 2023 qualifiers, Rui Vitoria unveiled his first list of 27 players selected to face Niger (September 23) and Libya (September 27) in a friendly match in Alexandria.
Four new faces are emerging: Mahmoud Hamada (midfielder, Pharco FC), Karim Fouad (defender, Al Ahly), Eslam Eissa (attacking midfielder, Pyramids) and Osama Galal (defender, Pyramids). Two major returns are to be noted: that of veteran Tarek Hamed (Al-Ittihad Club) and that of winger Ahmed Hassan Maghoub (Alanyaspor). The two men had not been called for a year. No return, however, for Sam Morsy (Ipswich Town), present in the preselection but absent from the final list.
Recruited by FC Nantes this summer and author of 3 goals in Ligue 1, Mostafa Mohamed is obviously on this list, as are the inevitable Mohamed Salah and Ahmed Hegazi, injured since the CAN quarter-finals and whose big comeback.
