This-Eygun: a novelty for the village festivals

The highlight of the weekend will be the first soapbox race in Aspe which will take place on Saturday. In the morning, from 9 am, on the terrace of the Château d’Arance, visitors will be able to discover the machines that will be checked.

They must indeed respond very precisely to certain characteristics: no engine, closed chassis, four wheels and brakes.

Chronos, aesthetics and originality

From 11 a.m., first road tests with a start in the village and a finish in the hairpin bends; the circuit is 528 meters long.

At 2 p.m., the race starts. Several rounds are planned throughout the afternoon. Watching for the rise of the machines in the form of a small train, this risks being folkloric because the competitors will have to show creativity for the decoration.

The ranking will also be based on aesthetics and originality in addition to times. Seven machines are registered for the start, including that of the village festival committee which will be favored on a track that it knows well, one which is being prepared in the valley and another in Lescun where small hands ensure the finishing touches.

Secure circuit

Many people are expected to support the competitors: the circuit will be secured over the entire length to enjoy the show.

Catering and refreshments on site at noon with local stands, food trucks and sheep’s milk ice cream. After the results, a relaxing evening from 8 p.m. with all-you-can-eat mussels and fries and Basque cake, a menu concocted by Maïté and Guillaume from Château d’Arance (15 euros) which will continue with musical entertainment.
