Together against the manipulation of sports competitions: two new signatures of the Macolin Convention

The Republic of Türkiye and North Macedonia have signed the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (CETS No. 215), known as the “Macolin Convention”, on October 26, 2022 in Antalya, Türkiye.

Ms Slavica GRKOVSKA, Deputy Prime Minister of North Macedonia and Mr Mehmet Muharrem KASAPOĞLU, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye signed the Convention on behalf of their respective countries.

The signing ceremony took place during the 17e Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport in the presence of Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

With these two signatures, a total of 41 countries have signed the Convention, which is open to membership by countries from all regions of the world committed to the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions.

The Macolin Convention is a legal instrument and the only rule of international law on the manipulation of sports competitions. It asks public authorities to cooperate with sports organisations, betting operators and competition organizers to prevent, detect and sanction the manipulation of sports competitions. It provides a common legal framework for effective international cooperation to respond to this global threat.
