Snapchat sends read receipts to notify the sender that their message has been read. However, it is possible to circumvent this feature. Explanation.
Like most instant messaging apps, Snapchat let the other know as soon as you read a message, and vice versa. This means that the second you open a snap, you may feel some pressure to respond, even if you don’t know what to say. However, it may be in good taste to take the time to think about your answer. Being able to not send this read receipt can then be interesting.
If this feature can be controlled, like with iMessage, that’s great, but it’s a very rare exception. Most of the time, it is not possible to deactivate it. However, there are two workaround options to not send read receipts on Snapchat.
The best way to read a snap without sending the read receipt
The best way to read a snap unfortunately only works for text messages. This is not possible with video messages or with pictures, although there is always a way to check their messages without alerting the other immediately. However, this method is simply better, because it allows you to read messages from your loved ones without them knowing; while the second method only gives you temporary respite, this one lets you read the messages as much as you want without notifying the sender.
To get started, open Snapchat and view your conversations list – or tap the chats icon at the bottom of the screen. Only tap on the chat you would like to open. Instead, slowly swipe right on the conversation starting with theavatar from the sender. If you swipe anywhere else on the chat, you will only go to the map. Swiping from the avatar will open the conversation. Swipe just enough to read the message, but not completely. Until you finish swiping right, Snapchat won’t count the message as read, giving you the option to read it as much as you want.
There is a workaround to view all snaps without letting them know, but it’s a temporary fix. When you get a new snap, pass your phone in airplane mode, to make sure both Wi-Fi and data are turned off. Even if you’re not logged in, you’ll be able to read the snap because it’s saved in the app.
And since you’re not logged in, Snapchat, which is currently strengthening its parental controls, has no way of alerting the sender that you have read their message. Of course, the app will do so as soon as it gets the chance. Simply put, if you want to put things off for as long as possible, quit Snapchat with your phone’s app switcher before turning off airplane mode. Your phone will reconnect to Internetbut since Snapchat is completely unloaded from the phone’s memory, the read receipt will not be sent.
Take your time responding, but keep in mind that the next time you open the app, it will notify the sender that you’ve read the message.
