General Motors, Pfizer, General Mills, Cheerios, Mondelez International… All these companies are pausing their advertising investments on Twitter.
A few days ago, we learned of the suspension of General Motors ads on Twitter since its takeover by Elon Musk. It seems that this has given ideas to other manufacturers, since the Volkswagen group decides in turn to pause its advertisements on the social network.
According to Reuters, the German group recommends that all its brands stop paying advertisements. This concerns Audi, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Volkswagen and Ducatti. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will decide on the next steps according to its evolution”said the first automaker.
Musk lays down his law
Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion but his arrival at the head of the blue bird is not appreciated by all. General Motors and Volkswagen Group are the first two manufacturers to suspend their advertisements, it could be that other car brands follow their steps and decide in turn to withdraw from Twitter.
The blue bird does not have the wind in its sails even with personalities who will soon have to pay monthly payments to keep their blue certification badge. Twitter employees also fear for their jobs since the arrival of Elon Musk, who plans to lay off 50% of the staff, or 3,750 employees out of 7,500.
“Unfortunately, there is no other choice, when the company loses more than 4 million dollars [autant d’euros] per day,” Elon Musk tweeted. “All those who lost their jobs were offered three months of compensation,” he said.
