Xiaomi pushes the limits of value for money with its Redmi Note 12, Pro and Pro+

Xiaomi has just formalized the Redmi Note 12, 12 Pro, 12 Pro+ and 12 “Explorer”. Four new smartphones that have a common ambition: to push the limits of value for money. And they just might.

The Redmi Note 11 is still today one of the best-selling smartphones in France. A success that it owes to its affordable price and its undeniable qualities. Redmi, which belongs to Xiaomi, has just presented its direct successor and several variants that are clearly not there to make up the numbers.

Redmi Note 12 Pro and 12 Pro+ that will hurt

The two “Pro” phones are powered by the same Dimensity 1080 chip engraved in 6 nm from MediaTek which is accompanied by 6, 8 or 12 GB of RAM depending on the variant. They also share the same 6.7-inch OLED screen with a Full HD + definition of 1080 x 2400 pixels and up to 900 cd / m2 of announced brightness.

If the batteries are identical (5000 mAh), there is a first difference in terms of fast charging which is 67W on the Redmi Note 12 Pro and 120W on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+. But it is probably on the side of the photo that the differences are the most marked.

Thus, the Note 12 Pro has a camera block consisting of three modules: a 50 Mpx wide-angle (Sony IMX766) with f / 1.9 aperture, an 8 Mpx ultra-wide-angle with the same aperture and a sensor 2 Mpx macro that we can’t wait to test (or not).

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ changes one thing about its camera unit, and not the least: a 200 megapixel HPX main module from Samsung with optical stabilization, a first on a Redmi smartphone. It will use the technology of “pixel binning” to make 16-in-1 photos to capture snapshots that will default to 12.5 megapixels. Enough to bring more detail and light to the most complex scenes. The selfie camera module looks more classic with its 16 megapixels.

Finally, there is a notable difference in the dimensions and weight of the two phones. Indeed, the Redmi Note 12 Pro + is a little thicker than the classic version and weighs 208 g, against 187 g for the Note 12 Pro. Xiaomi does not compromise on the connectivity side either with 5G, Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 which are good in the game.

A Redmi Note 12 “Explorer” edition that pushes the limits

Xiaomi likes variations, as proven by the Redmi Note 12 “Explorer” which largely takes up the technical sheet of the 12 Pro+ (are you still following?) but with a little subtlety on the battery and charging side.

Indeed, this special edition has a smaller 4300 mAh battery, but increases the fast charge from 120W to 210W, doubling Vivo in the field of fast charging. Enough to charge the phone in just 9 minutes, compared to 19 minutes for the Redmi Note 12 Pro+.

To achieve this, Xiaomi has developed proprietary technology that results in three channels of 70W (20V at 3.5A). The manufacturer claims to have done a lot of work on the GaN charger but also on the charging cable for optimal safety.

Redmi Note 12: the most accessible of the range

We end with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 which makes some concessions compared to its three friends, to be offered at an even more affordable price. Thus, this model is equipped with a Snapdragon 4 Gen1 chip from Qualcomm engraved in 6 nanometers, with 4, 6 or 8 GB of RAM.

The camera block is more modest with its two modules of 48 Mpx (wide-angle) and 2 Mpx (for depth). The selfie module is 8 megapixels. Finally, the 5000 mAh battery is equipped with a fast recharge of “only 33W” which remains faster than what some models from Samsung or Apple offer…

On the other hand, no compromise seems to have been made on the screen side, which also benefits from AMOLED technology, 120 Hz and a fairly crazy peak brightness announced for the entry level: 1200 nits.
